The latter has the advantages of simplicity and efficiency in terms of cost and time. Some traditions of international air transport regulation, dating back to 1944, were contrary to the principles of the established air transport market in Europe. While traditionally every international airline should have a certain nationality, the EU has developed, in recent decades, an internal market in which nationals of an EU Member State can invest, set up and control airlines authorised in any other EU Member State.
